Dealing With Issues: Lying.

Statements or answers which are untrue. Lying, false witness, deceit and false dealings are all condemned in Scripture.


Lying is condemned

Ps 34:12-13; Eph 4:25; Col 3:9-10 See also Ex 20:16; Dt 5:20; Lev 19:11-12; Pr 6:16-17; 12:22.




Examples of lying:

1)  The serpent to Eve Ge 3:4-5. 


2) Cain to the LORD Ge 4:9.


3)  Abraham urges Sarah to lie to the Egyptians Ge 12:11-13.


4)  Sarah to the LORD Ge 18:15.


5)  Abraham to Abimelech Ge 20:1-2.


6)  Isaac to the men of Gerar Ge 26:6-7.


7) Jacob to Isaac Ge 27:18-19,24.


8)  Potiphar’s wife to her household servants Ge 39:14-18.


9)  Gehazi to Naaman and then to Elisha 2Ki 5:22-27.


10)  Ananias and Sapphira Ac 5:1-10.


11) Some Jews persuaded others to lie about Stephen Ac 6:11,13.


12) The Jews brought false charges against Paul Ac 25:7.



Lying will not go unnoticed or unpunished

God’s people should resist the temptation to lie

Lying can be an act of malice

Lying is the hallmark of the devil and the antichrist
